The design of the Speed Spool's frame is the most noticeable modification. The redesigned frame of Lew's Speed Spool LFS Series Baitcast Reels has readily detachable palming graphite side plates and is made of one piece of die-cast aluminum. The redesigned LFS frame platform, which helps lower the total weight of the reel, is largely responsible for the new Speed Spool's weight of only 7 ounces.

The LFS design also extends the distance between the zirconia line guides, giving fishermen a very long cast range. Aluminum anodized SSG U-spools. All other reels but Lew's Fast Spool LFS Series Baitcast Reel are made of machine-forged aluminum.
